K Hozhoni (pronounced kai-ah-vah) was born on Friday, April 20, at 11:01am, weighing 8-pounds 12-ounces (and she's 21-inches long).
Her name comes from S's primary clan, Todích'íi'nii (Bitter Water in English), translated into Hawaiian. In Navajo
culture lineage is traced through the women, and since K is the first woman to be born in this generation we decided to name her after her clan. This is especially significant because S is the only girl on her mother's side of the family--meaning that she is the last one to carry on the clan name for her family.
You may have noticed that we used "Kai" (sea water) rather than "Wai" (fresh water). This represents the fact that her father comes from the water of the sea (i.e. Hawaii), rather than the fresh water springs of Arizona.
Her middle name, Hozhoni (Ho-zho-nee), is Navajo and means "harmony and beauty".
Coincedentally she was born 6 years to the day of our first date.
